It was Leonora Eames' childhood dream. She'd wed Smith Ohlrig millions. Once she realizes the truth concerning her husband However, her dream became a nightmare he is power mad and insane! Since he will not give her a divorce, she leaves her life of luxury and goes to work as a receptionist in the office at NYC's lower west side of an impoverished doctor. Leonora becomes pregnant, after she is deceived by Smith into a reconciliation. By now she recognizes she's hoping, she and one of those doctors, Larry Quinada (James Mason), have fallen in love.
