Inocencio Prieto y Calvo gets a letter informing him that he is the heir to his wealthy uncle's estate, which is worth two million pesos. Due to the fact that he is illiterate, he is unaware of both the sender of the letter as well as the contents of the letter. Therefore, he decides to go to the pharmacy so that the pharmacist can read the letter to him. However, while he is waiting to be assisted, he notices a young girl who is able to read. He concludes that he must be able to deduce the contents of the letter on his own and comes to the conclusion that he will put the letter away, go to school, and wait to read the letter on his own when he has done so.
