Favourites of the Moon
The tale focuses on two things, an uncommon set of 18th-century Limoges china, and also a 19th century stylish portrait. As these things are passed, marketed, or stolen from one character to one more, a giddy round dance of excess begins to form, one which suggests that if background does not duplicate itself, it certainly rhymes. Together with co-writer Gérard Brach, whose other co-writing credit reports include Repulsion as well as Tess, Otar Iosseliani makes use of a feather-light touch to reveal the futility of class as well as caste, making a bagatelle of the issues of rich as well as poor alike.
