Hubble's Cosmic Journey
This is your view of the stars... Hubble was sent into space on the Space Shuttle Discovery in April 1990. Its launch into orbit over 500 km above the Earth was the start of one of humanity's biggest dreams: to put a telescope into space, high above the Earth's atmosphere, to get the clearest possible view of the universe. But in the months that followed, it became clear that the dream had become a nightmare when a flaw was found in Hubble's mirror. After three years of heartache and a huge amount of human resolve, a rescue mission was set up to fix the flaw. The results were amazing and gave us the clearest picture we've ever had of the Universe. This is the story of the men and women who came up with, built, fixed, and ran Hubble, the most famous piece of science equipment ever made.
