The Phantom of Liberty
This Surrealist Spanish film, whose title alludes to the Communist Manifesto, weaves together brief episodes from the life of filmmaker Luis Buuel. The 19th century through the 1970s are spanned by these haphazardly interconnected, protagonist-less events that are presented as fortuitous encounters. The film touches briefly on topics such as execution, pedophilia, incest, and sex and contains a diverse cast, including a sick father and inept police officers.
