The Real Versailles

Since BBC 2 premieres its lavish play set at the sumptuous surroundings of Versailles, Helen Castor and Lucy Worsley tell the stories supporting one of earth's greatest buildings. They reveal the colourful universe of drama, gender and intrigue which Louis XIV and his courtiers inhabited. Lucy untangles Louis world of fashion court etiquette and feasting, while Helen unpicks the world of court and delves in to the archives that Louis created. We meet the folks behind the on-screen personalities and see that which drove Louis to glorify his reign to the scale unmatched by any former monarch, inspect the stress between Louis and his brother Philippe, a battle protagonist and overt gay, and so they meet the coterie of women who collaborated for Louis's attention. We see that Louis was succeeded in defeating his enemies and ruthless in his pursuit of glory. For the culture and sophistication, France became renowned in his predominate.
