Blue's Clues is a popular children's television program that originated in the United States and was broadcast on the cable television network Nickelodeon from September8, 1996 through August6,2006. The show aired for a total of ten years. The producers Angela Santomero, Todd Kessler, and Traci Paige Johnson merged ideas from early childhood education and child development with cutting-edge animation and production techniques to create a show that was educational for its audience and helped viewers learn new things. Donovan Patton took over the hosting duties after Steve Burns, who had previously served in that capacity but had resigned in 2002 to pursue a career in music. Burns was a significant contributor to the popularity of the show, and the rumors that circulated about his impending resignation were a signal that the show had become a cultural phenomenon. It was absolutely essential to Nickelodeon's expansion that Blue's Clues become the show with the highest ratings for preschoolers on commercial television in the United States.
