Spooks: Code 9
Spooks: Code 9 is a counter-intelligence drama series that aired on BBC Three in 2008. BBC Fiction controller Jane Tranter commissioned the series as a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks, presenting a "more maverick, younger perspective" that would appeal to a 16-24-year-old audience. The show depicts a group of six new teenage MI5 recruits who "play by a different set of rules." Kudos, an independent production company, produced it, and it was shot in and around Leeds and Bradford. The first two episodes aired on BBC Three on August 10, 2008, and were rerun on August 11, 2008. The decision to link the new production to the original Spooks was met with criticism, with star Georgia Moffett claiming that "it's slightly misleading in terms of the word Spooks." as well as producer Chris Fry adding "This is an entirely new program. There are no crossover characters or storylines, and it is situated in an entirely different planet." Following the moderately unsuccessful first season, executive producer Karen Wilson announced that several of the existing cast members had been "contracted for another year" and specified themes "we'd like to explore if we receive a second series."
