The Crystal Maze

The Crystal Maze was a British game Series, produced by Chatsworth Television and shown on Channel 4 in Britain between 1-5 February 1990 and 10 August 1995. There is just one set each year, with the first four series presented by Richard O'Brien and the 2 from Ed Tudor-Pole. Each show was one hour long. The series was originally meant to be considered described as a movie of the programme Fort Boyard. The unavailability of the collection of the show directed British producer Malcolm Heyworth to reinvent the series, with zones being a means to hold the series visually fresh. The show is set in"The Crystal Maze", that features four separate"zones" set in various phases of time and space. A team of six contestants participate in a set of challenges so as to acquire"time crystals". Each crystal provides the team five seconds of period indoors"The Crystal Dome", the centre piece of the maze where the contestants participate in their final battle. The maze cost #250,000 to build and has been the size of 2 football pitches. The series was probably the most watched on Channel 4, regularly bringing between 4 and 6 million viewers. Back in 2006 and again in 2010, the series was voted"biggest UK game series of them all" by subscribers of UKGameshows.com. This website describes the programme as"a highly-ambitious, risky series that repaid handsomely."
